Are You Suffering From Constant Heartburn?

Constant heartburn affects millions of people every year and results in millions of dollars of sales for common heartburn remedies.  Constant heartburn can be caused by a wide variety of different things and the remedy that will work best on a particular case of heartburn will depend on what has caused the heartburn to occur.  Sometimes the frequent heartburn is caused by something that can be easily remedied, but in some cases the cause of the heartburn is something that is far more serious.

Foods Causing Heartburn

In many cases, constant heartburn is caused by a food or foods that the person eats on a consistent basis.  Because the person has probably been eating the foods for years without any ill effects, they may not realize that something that they are eating has been causing their discomfort.  When constant heartburn occurs, the first thing that the person should do is examine their diet and see if a food that they have been eating is what is causing the problem.

There are many different foods that can cause constant heartburn if eaten in significant amounts, but not all of these foods will affect all people in the same way.  The person that is affected by the heartburn should keep track of the foods that they have eaten that may have triggered the case of heartburn and as time goes by, they will be able to narrow it

down to the foods that are affecting them.  By eliminating these foods from their diet or eating them in moderation with a preventative medication taken first, they will be able to get rid of their constant heartburn.

Medical Issues

If the person suffering from constant heartburn is unable to determine which foods are causing the heartburn or the case of heartburn becomes severe, they will need to consult a medical professional about their problem.  In some cases, constant heartburn is not caused by a food that has been eaten; it is caused by a medical condition that needs to be resolved.  The longer that a person puts off going to the doctor about their condition, the worse the heartburn will get and the worse off the person will be.

After the doctor has evaluated the person and determined the cause of their problem, they will more than likely give the person a prescription for a medication that can be used to alleviate their constant heartburn.  Some of these prescription medications can take a couple of days for the person to feel the full effects of the medication and, if the problem is not chronic, then the person has a good chance of the heartburn disappearing completely.  The doctor will give the patient instructions on what type of food items to avoid to keep the constant heartburn from coming back and affecting their life again.
